Full Stack Software Developer

Earls Kitchen + Bar is seeking a full-stack developer to join our Technology team. Our team focuses on developing and applying software to tackle real world problems. Our goal is to make Earls locations the best run restaurants on the planet. We’re constantly on the lookout for places software can help!

We develop tools to make our store operators more efficient, or save them costs, while running their business. We build communication tools to connect teams across the company as they plan, coordinate, deploy, and track a constant flow of new menus, promotions, recipes, ingredients and suppliers. We design, execute, and maintain data pipelines that interface with, and collect data from, third-party systems. We transform that data into meaningful metrics, and surface it in ways that enables the company to make decisions with insight and confidence.

Being a small, tight software team embedded in a restaurant company has some interesting twists: Our work requires we understand not just our systems, but the business as a whole. We’re comfortable communicating with people from different domains and working with them to translate their process into code. Our team enjoys opportunities to work directly with people at all levels of the company, direct ownership over our problems, and autonomy in our technical direction. We also enjoy a great work life balance. We work normal hours and never have crunch time. Our goal is steady, sustainable, improvement over time.

Software development at Earls involves designing, writing, and reviewing code and tests together as team in an agile process. You’ll write code with Python, PHP, Javascript, HTML and Sass (CSS) on both front and back ends, use both relational and non-relational databases, and deploy to Google Compute, App Engine, and Google Container Engine. We’ll supply you with a Macbook Pro, dual monitors, any other hardware you need to be effective, and resources to develop your skills and leadership.

Our office is in Gastown. It is easily accessible from transit, has a bike room, showers, a kitchen, and a lot of wonderful people!

Earls Kitchen + Bar is a family-run business, launched by father and son, Leroy Earl “Bus” Fuller and Stanley Earl Fuller in the early ‘80s and is also one of North America’s most successful independent restaurant groups. There are about 7,000 employees at 69 locations from Vancouver to Miami. Earls started with a simple idea: a laid-back burger and beer joint. Earls' early success was based on innovation, the best ingredients and great service.

While keeping these core values, Earls has become a trend setting high end restaurant group known for ‘unchaining the chain’ with customized new build locations, and innovative improvements to existing restaurants. We are a force to be reckoned with in the restaurant industry where employees and partners feel a strong sense of pride representing the Earls brand.
